2 - 7 Aged 12, Martina Hingis became youngest ever Grand Slam junior winner at the 1993 French Open. In March 1997 Martina Hingis became the youngest top ranked player in history Martina Hingis was ranked number one in the world for 209 weeks. The longest consecutive spell was 73 weeks between 31 March 1997 and 11 October 1998. Martina Hingis was the youngest Grand Slam champion in the 20th century, winning the Australian Open (defeating Mary Pierce in final) at 16 yrs, 3 months, 26 days. Martina Hingis is one of only five women players to have been ranked number one in singles and doubles at the same time. Martina retired from the tour at the end of 2002 but returned in 2005 at Pattaya City losing to Marlene Weingartner and came back full time in 2006. She retired November 2007. She won the Australian Open beating Mary Pierce 6-2 6-2, Wimbledon beating Jana Novotna 2-6 6-3 6-3 and the US Open beating Venus Williams 6-0 6-4. She only lost out in the French Open final losing to Iva Majoli 6-4 6-2. 1998 Martina won the Australian Open beating Conchita Martinez 6-3 6-3. 1998 Martina Hingis became only the fourth woman ever to complete the doubles Grand Slam. She won the Australian Open with Miriana Lucic defeating Lindsay Davenport and Natasha Zvereva 6-4 2-6 6-3. The French Open was won with Jana Novotna again beating Davenport and Zvereva 6-1 7-6 (7-4). Martina and Jana beat the same pair 6-3 3-6 8-6 in the Wimbledon final and again at the US Open 6-3 6-3. 1999 Martina won her third consecutive Australian Open title beating Amelie Mauresmo 6-2 6-3. Also won the doubles title with Anna Kournikova beating Lindsay Davenport and Natasha Zvereva 7-5 6-3. 2000 Martina won the French Open doubles title with Mary Pierce defeating Virginia Ruano Pascual and Paola Suarez 6-2 6-4. 2002 Martina Hingis and Anna Kournikova won the Australian Open doubles title beating Daniela Hantuchova and Arantxa Sanchez Vicario 6-2 6-7(4-7) 6-1. 2006 Martina won her first title since returning to the tour in Rome beating Dinara Safina 6-2, 7-5 in the final.
