1 - 1 Serena was number one in the world for 57 weeks from 8th July 2002 to 10th August 2003. In 2003 Serena Williams won her fourth straight Grand Slam singles title when she took the Australian Open title. She became only the ninth woman ever to win all four Grand Slam events, and only the fifth woman in the Open era, joining the ranks of Billie Jean King, Chris Evert, Martina Navratilova and Steffi Graf. A week later she took the Indian Wells title beating Steffi Graf. 1999 Serena and Venus teamed up to win the doubles titles at the French Open beating Martina Hingis and Anna Kournikova 6-3 6-7 8-6. and the US Open beating Chanda Rubin and Sandrine Testud 4-6 6-1 6-4, becoming the first sister team to win a Grand Slam doubles title in the 20th century. 1999 Serena Williams won her first Grand Slam title by beating Martina Hingis in the final of the US Open 6-3 7-6 (7-4). 2000 Serena and Venus won the Wimbledon doubles title beating Julie Halard and Ai Sugiyama 6-3 6-2. They also won a gold medal at the Olympics in Sydney beating Kristie Boogert and Miriam Oremans 6-1 6-1 in the final. 2001 Venus won Wimbledon beating Justine Henin 6-1 3-6 6-0 and repeated her feat of the previous year winning the US Open this time beating her sister Serena 6-2 6-4. 2002 Serena won the French Open title beating Venus Williams 7-5 6-3 in the final. She also beat her sister again in the Wimbledon final 7-6 (7-4) 6-3. Together the sisters won the Wimbledon doubles title beating Virginia Ruano Pascual and Paola Suarez 6-2 7-5. 2002 Serena Williams became number one in the world on the 8th July. 2003 Serena won the Australian Open title beating Venus 7-6 (7-4) 3-6 6-4 in the final.
